How pet sitting is priced in India
Updated By PetymFacts checked against official sources on
Quick answer
Pet sitting is usually priced per visit, per walk, or per day or night, and the total depends on how many visits your pet needs, whether the sitter stays overnight, how many pets you have, any medicines or special care, your dates and how far the sitter travels. Ask what each price includes before you agree.
On Petym, overnight sitting in your home costs Rs 2,199 a night in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru and Rs 1,799 in other cities, for one pet, set on 21 October 2026 in the premium part of what Indian sitters publish. Use the factors below to compare any quote, Petym's included.
- Meet your sitter first, free
- PAN-checked, first-aid trained
- A photo every day
- Pay through Petym, never cash
What does pet sitting cost in India?
It varies a lot between cities, between sitters and with what is included, so compare what each price covers.
Published prices for sitting, walking and boarding range widely in Indian cities, from low "from" prices on directory listings to much higher rates for a sitter who stays the night. Bigger cities cost more, because a sitter there spends more on rent and on travel across town.
Petym looked at what sitters, walkers and home boarders publish in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, and in October 2026 set its own rate card in the premium part of that range, above the median: Rs 2,199 a night for overnight sitting in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru, Rs 1,799 in other cities. The rest of this guide explains what changes a price, so you can compare any quote line by line.
How do pet sitters charge?
Most use one of these units. The unit matters less than what each one includes.
Drop-in visits
Per visit
A set visit for feeding, water, the litter tray or a toilet break, play and an update. Two visits a day costs more than one.
Dog walking
Per walk
Usually by length of walk and whether it is solo or a group walk.
Overnight sitting
Per day or per night
A sitter who stays in your home, usually overnight and with visits or time in the day.
Home boarding
Per night in the sitter's home
Your pet stays with the sitter. The price may change with the size of your dog or the number of pets.
Day care
Per day of day care
Daytime company and play while you are at work.
Extras
Add-ons
Medicines, an extra walk, a vet trip, grooming or a late-night visit may be priced separately. Ask.
What changes the price of pet sitting?
Read down your situation. Each factor, why it changes the cost, and what to ask.
| Why it changes the price | What to ask | |
|---|---|---|
| Visits or an overnight stay | A sitter who stays gives up their evening and night; visits fit around other work. | Is the night rate for a sitter who sleeps here, and what daytime time is included? |
| How many visits a day Cats Protection | Cats Protection advises at least two a day for a cat at home; each visit is a trip. | Is the price per visit, and are both visits the same length? |
| Visit or walk length | A longer walk or visit takes more of the sitter's day. | What exactly happens in the time I am paying for? |
| Number of pets | Two dogs need two leashes and more care; several cats need several trays checked. | Is there a charge for each extra pet, and does it change by species? |
| Medicines and special needs Cats Protection | Doses at set times, injections or a senior pet's care take skill and time. | Is medicine included, and is there a charge for injections or night doses? |
| A pet that cannot be left alone ASPCA | The ASPCA says dogs with separation anxiety should not be left alone outside training while being treated, so they need more company. | Can you stay longer, or stay overnight, and what does that cost? |
| A puppy PDSA | PDSA says puppies need a toilet trip every 2 to 3 hours in the day. | How many visits do you suggest for my puppy, and at what price? |
| Dates | Diwali, summer holidays, Christmas, New Year and long weekends are when most people want a sitter. | Is there a different rate on festival dates or public holidays? |
| Distance and timing | Travel across a big city takes time; early morning and late visits are harder to staff. | Do you charge for travel, or for visits before or after certain hours? |
| Length of booking | Some sitters price long bookings differently. | Is there a different rate for a week or more? |
Petym's rate card prices most of these as fixed extras: each extra pet, a puppy, injections, festival dates and same-day booking. Compare quotes by what they include, not by the headline number.

What do pet sitting price terms mean?
- Per visit
- One trip to your home for a set list of tasks. Two visits a day are usually two charges.
- Per night
- A sitter who sleeps at your home, or your pet sleeping at the sitter's home. Check what daytime care is included.
- Additional pet
- A charge for each pet after the first, sometimes different for dogs and cats.
- Holiday or festival rate
- A different price on high-demand dates. Ask whether it applies and which dates count.
- Add-on
- Anything outside the standard visit, such as an extra walk, a vet trip or giving an injection.
- Cancellation terms
- What you pay if you cancel, and what happens if the sitter cancels. Get it in writing.
- Platform fee
- On a marketplace, a fee to the platform on top of the sitter's price. Ask whether a quote includes it. Petym adds none: its rate card price is what you pay.

How does Petym price pet sitting?
By the night, the visit, the walk or the day, at one dated price for each service and city tier.
Petym prices overnight sitting and boarding by the night, drop-in visits by the visit, dog walking by the walk and day care by the day. Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru have their own column, because a sitter there spends more on rent and travel. The price is what you pay through Petym: Petym's share comes out of it, and the sitter is paid after the booking. Petym is pre-launch, so these are the prices you will pay when your city opens.
Petym is priced in the premium part of the market on purpose, because what a booking includes is decided. Every sitter is checked, and every first booking starts with a free meet and greet. During a booking, the sitter follows your pet's plan as you write it, logs feeds, walks and medicines as they happen, and sends a daily photo update. Walks are one-to-one, and day care homes take at most 3 dogs. In an emergency, the sitter calls you and takes your pet to the nearest 24-hour vet on the city's list.
How can you keep the cost down without cutting the care?
Plan the right care early, rather than choosing less care.
Book early for festival dates and school holidays, when demand is highest and choice is lowest. Combine services sensibly: a calm adult dog on a short trip might do well with walks and visits, while a nervous one needs a sitter who stays. If you have a cat and a dog, one sitter for both may cost less than two separate arrangements.
Prepare well so the sitter's time goes on your pet, not on searching. A full care sheet, food and medicines laid out, supplies easy to find and the society gate approved in advance all make each visit go further. What not to cut: the number of visits a cat needs, the midday break a dog needs on a long day, and the medicine doses your vet has set. Those are the parts of the price that protect your pet's health.

Questions owners ask
How much does pet sitting cost in India?
- It varies by city, sitter and what is included. On Petym, overnight sitting is Rs 2,199 a night in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru and Rs 1,799 elsewhere. The price rises with visits a day, extra pets, medicines, festival dates and distance.
Is pet sitting charged per day or per visit?
- Both are common. Drop-in visits are usually priced per visit, dog walks per walk, and a sitter who stays overnight per day or per night. Petym prices sitting by the night, visits per visit and walks per walk. Ask what each unit includes.
Why do pet sitters charge more on Diwali and holidays?
- Not all do. Some charge a different rate on high-demand dates such as Diwali, summer holidays, Christmas and long weekends, because that is when most owners travel. Ask whether a holiday rate applies, which dates it covers, and agree it in writing.
Does a second pet cost extra with a pet sitter?
- Often, because a second pet means more feeding, walking, litter trays or medicines. Some sitters charge for each additional pet, sometimes differently for dogs and cats. Ask for the price per pet, and make sure the visit is long enough to care for each one properly.
Are drop-in visits cheaper than an overnight pet sitter?
- Per booking, visits often cost less, but they suit only some pets. A healthy adult cat may be fine with two visits a day. A dog with separation anxiety, a puppy or a pet on frequent medicines may need a sitter who stays, which can make visits a false saving.
What should be included in a pet sitting price?
- Ask for the tasks in each visit or night: feeding, fresh water, walks or the litter tray, any medicines, play, a check of the home and an update to you. Then ask about extras: additional pets, holiday dates, travel, late visits, vet trips and cancellation terms.
Does Petym add a booking fee to its prices?
- No. The rate card price is what you pay through Petym; Petym's share comes out of it, and the sitter is paid after the booking. Extras such as a second pet or festival dates are listed on the Pricing page.
Is it cheaper to board my dog than to hire a sitter?
- It depends on the sitter, the boarder, your dates and what is included, so compare like for like. Ask each for a full quote for the same dates, with walks, feeding, any medicines and extra pets included. Then weigh the price against your dog's needs: some dogs settle better at home, others enjoy boarding.
