Petym’s cities

Updated By Petym

Petym is starting in 14 Indian cities. Ten have a full pet owner’s guide today, the local dog licence, vets that take emergencies round the clock, the weather month by month, the year’s holidays and the stations to leave from, and the other four follow as their facts are confirmed on official pages.

Each city guide answers what an owner there needs to know before leaving a pet with anyone: whether the corporation requires a dog licence, which vets take emergencies at night, when the heat and the rains arrive, which holidays crowd the trains, and where to catch them. Every fact is checked on an official page, with the date.

Bookings open in each city once its local sitters have passed Petym’s checks. Until then, every guide is free to read.

What does each city guide cover?

Five things an owner needs before a trip, each from the body that publishes it, never from a directory or a news story.

Every guide starts with the dog licence: whether the city corporation requires one, which office issues it and the official page to apply on. Then come the vets that say on their own website that they take emergencies round the clock, with the address and hours in their words. The weather section gives IMD's 1991 to 2020 averages for the city's own station, month by month, so you can see when walks need to move to early morning. The holiday list is the state's own notification for the year, which tells you when trains fill and when crackers are likely. Last, the stations and airports, as the railway's or airport's page describes them.

Each guide is free to read now, while sitters in that city are being checked. Where a fact could not be confirmed on an official page, such as a city's own monsoon dates or a clinic's night hours, the guide says so rather than filling the gap.

When does the monsoon reach each city?

The rains decide when walks get short, when ticks and leptospirosis rise, and when floodwater makes some streets unsafe for a dog. IMD's normal dates differ by weeks across Petym's cities.

IMD publishes no normal monsoon dates for Gurugram or Ghaziabad themselves; their guides say so. Dates are long-term normals, not forecasts.

What does a pet owner's year look like in an Indian city?

The same calendar shapes every city guide: heat, then rain, then festivals, then cold and smog in the north.

  1. February or March

Holi. AWBI's 2026 advisory asks people not to put dry or wet colour on any animal: chemical colours can burn skin and eyes. Animal Welfare Board of India

  2. March to June

Heat-wave season, peaking in May. Walks move to early morning and late evening. India Meteorological Department

  3. From 1 June

The southwest monsoon sets in over Kerala and moves north through June. India Meteorological Department

  4. June to September

Leptospirosis cases rise in the monsoon; ask your vet about the vaccine before the rains. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

  5. October to November

Diwali. Sound-emitting crackers are banned from 10 pm to 6 am under the Supreme Court's 2005 judgment, so settle your pet in its den before dark. Supreme Court of India

  7. December to January

Which city hazards catch pet owners out?

Each is a known pattern in Indian cities, and each city guide says which apply there.

What is different about keeping a pet in a city flat?

Most urban owners live in a housing society, and its rules, lifts and security gate shape a pet's day as much as the weather does.

The Animal Welfare Board of India's guidelines of 26 February 2015 say a society cannot ban pet dogs or stop them using lifts, and ask owners to leash dogs in common areas and clean up after them. Mumbai's BMC wrote the same points into its 2025 guidelines, and Noida's 2022 pet policy bars RWAs from adding rules of their own. Community dogs are fed at spots the RWA agrees under rule 20 of the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023.

A sitter coming to your flat needs to get past the gate. Tell security in advance who will visit, on which days, and whether they may take the dog out. A sitter who hosts pets in their own flat must show Petym their society's permission for paid pet sitting before they are listed.

Plan for the hot months. A flat can heat up fast on an upper floor, so leave the sitter notes on which room stays coolest, where the water bowls go and what to do in a power cut.

What should you sort out when you move city with a pet?

A dog licence does not travel with you, and nor does your vet. Work through this in the first weeks.

How does a city open for bookings on Petym?

A city opens when enough of its sitters have passed Petym's checks. Until then, its guide is free to read and its waitlist is open.

  1. Sitters apply

Local people who want to look after pets apply to become Petym sitters.

  2. Identity

Each sitter's identity is verified with PAN.

  3. Home and society

Sitters who host pets show Petym their home on a video walk-through, and their housing society's permission for paid pet sitting.

  4. First aid and a vet

Every sitter completes pet first-aid training and names a 24-hour vet within reach before the first booking.

  5. The city opens

Petym emails the city's waitlist once, when bookings open. Each booking starts with a free meet and greet.

Questions owners ask

Which cities is Petym starting in?

Petym is starting in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Ghaziabad, with Thane, Navi Mumbai, Noida and Faridabad following as their facts are confirmed. Each city with a guide has its own page on licences, 24-hour vets, weather and holidays.

Is Petym taking bookings in my city?

Not yet. Petym is pre-launch and opens city by city, once local sitters have passed its checks. You can join your city's waitlist on this page, and Petym will email you once, when bookings open there. The city guides are free to read in the meantime.

Do I need a dog licence in my city?

In most of Petym's cities, yes: Delhi, Mumbai, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Ghaziabad and Noida all have a licence or registration rule. Bengaluru's bye-laws were still a draft when checked in October 2026. Each city's licence page quotes the corporation's own rule.

Where do the city weather figures come from?

From the India Meteorological Department's climatological tables for 1991 to 2020, for the station named on each guide, and IMD's normal monsoon dates. Where IMD has no station or no dates for a city, as with Gurugram's monsoon, the guide gives no numbers of its own.

Which Indian cities are hardest on pets in summer?

IMD names Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Telangana and West Bengal among heat-wave-prone areas, so Delhi, Gurugram, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata need the most care from March to June. IMD does not name Bengaluru. Flat-faced, heavy and older dogs are at highest risk of heatstroke anywhere.

How do I find a 24-hour vet in my city?

Open your city's page in Petym's vets directory. It lists clinics whose own website or an official page states 24-hour or emergency care for that branch, with phones and hours in their words, and labels daytime clinics clearly. Call ahead on the way whenever you can.

Can a pet sitter visit my flat in a gated society?

Yes. Visitors follow your society's usual gate process, and AWBI's 2015 guidelines say a society cannot ban pet dogs or stop them using lifts. Tell security in advance who will come and when, and whether the sitter may walk your dog in common areas on a leash.

My city is not listed. Can I still use Petym's guides?

Yes. The care guides, rule pages and free tools apply anywhere in India. For licences, check your own municipal corporation's website, and for emergencies save the nearest clinic that states 24-hour care on its own page. You can join the waitlist with the nearest listed city.
