What do IndiGo's own pages say about carrying animals?
Its baggage FAQ bars animals in any form from both cabin and checked baggage:
Word for word
Prohibited in Checked and Cabin baggage: … Fish (including other sea food), animals, birds, insects in any form, whether alive and/or dead, and/or frozen and/or dried and/or cooked
Its baggage policy adds a condition, “Unless expressly permitted in the Conditions of Carriage, live or dead animals; birds or insects”, and the conditions of carriage name only “Customers travelling with a service Dog”. IndiGo accepts service or guide dogs on all its aircraft other than ATRs.
When do you call, arrive and board with a service dog on IndiGo?
Call at least 48 hours ahead, reach the airport 2 hours before departure, and board first. IndiGo may refuse a dog that cannot be controlled.
48 hours before
Call the IndiGo call centre on 0124 617 3838 to add the service dog to your booking. IndiGo
When you call
IndiGo takes one guide dog per aircraft. If another passenger on that aircraft has already asked, your dog cannot fly on it. IndiGo
2 hours before
Reach the airport and tell the staff at the reservation desk. IndiGo
At the gate
Ask to board first, so you and the dog can settle in. IndiGo
In flight
The dog lies on a moisture-absorbent mat on the floor in front of your feet for the whole flight, restrained, odour-free and muzzled. IndiGo
Does it matter which IndiGo flight you book with a service dog?
Yes: the aircraft, and who actually flies it, decide the rules.
If the flight is an ATR, IndiGo's turboprop
No service dog can fly on it. IndiGo
If the flight is an A320 or an A321
One service or guide dog at most on the aircraft. IndiGo
If you are flying Mumbai to Amsterdam or Mumbai to Manchester
It is a Boeing 787 flown by Norse under a wet or damp lease, and Norse's service-dog rules apply, see below. IndiGo
If the flight carries a * when you book
It is a codeshare flown by a partner airline, and the partner's conditions of carriage apply, including on animals. IndiGo
If you need to fly a pet dog or cat, not a service dog
IndiGo cannot take it. Air India and Akasa Air carry pets in the cabin and the hold, and SpiceJet carries dogs in the hold. By air: airlines compared

Can an emotional support dog fly as a service dog on IndiGo?
Not on what IndiGo publishes. Its pages speak only of trained service or guide dogs, and ask for credible evidence of training, vaccination and medication. Petym found no IndiGo page that mentions emotional support animals.
India's own aviation accessibility standards draw the same line: a service animal is a dog individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
